Making Exceptions for Students

It is possible to change the dates, timing and number of allowed attempts for individual users or groups in a course. This is accomplished by setting a user override.

Group overrides will only be available if you have created groups in your course. We will look at user overrides first.

User Overrides

To set a user override:

  1. Navigate to Quiz administration > User overrides.

  2. Click on the Add user override button.

  3. Select the user for whom you would like to set overrides. You may only select one user at a time with this method. If you want to select more than one student at a time and give that group of students the same customizations you will want to use Group overrides.

    • You may choose to require a password. Depending on the sort of override you are providing this may be helpful.

    • You may choose to set different opening and closing dates for the quiz. In most cases this would be used to provide extra time/opportunity to take the quiz. This could also be used to open the quiz who was absent during the open period for the quiz.

    • You may set a custom time limit for the quiz, allowing a different amount of time for a student or students.

    • You may customize the number of allowed attempts for the quiz.

  4. Click the Save button if you have finished entering an override. If you want to add overrides for another student you may click the Save and enter another override button.

Group Overrides

You may set the same overrides for an entire group a you can for a single user. if you have a large number of students for whom you will set the same overrides it may make sense to create a group for them and then set overrides for that group.

  2. Scroll to and expand the Groups section.

  3. Select Separate Groups.
