Reports
Moodle contains several reports built into course pages to assist instructors with facilitating and assessing teaching and learning goals. These reports provide detailed information about course events and student performance and interaction within a Moodle course.
Brief summaries for the most relevant course reports are provided below. For additional information on course reports, please visit the detailed Course Reports articles on Moodle Docs.
Dates Report
The Dates Report provides a summary of the start/end dates for all Moodle activities with a course. The report can be filtered by activity type. This report also allows an instructor to quickly set new start/end dates for Moodle activities. This report is particularly helpful if you are reusing a past course and want to update assignment or quiz availability and due dates in bulk.
Logs Report
The Logs Report is a helpful tool for understanding how students are, or in some cases are not, interacting with a course. By default, the Logs Report will include all activity in the course. The filters at the top of the page allow you to adjust and narrow the report criteria:
Participant (all/select)
Date (all/select
Activities (all/select)
Actions (all, create, view, update, delete)
Sources
Events (all, teaching, participating, other)
This is a helpful and reliable tool when you are attempting to determine when students accessed Moodle, the course, and/or the resources and activities in a course.
For additional information, see the Logs Report article on Moodle Docs.
Live Logs Report
The Live Logs Report is essentially a live-updating version of the Logs Report detailed above. It provides an instructor with a real-time running log of all current activity happening in the course. This report is helpful for instructors and administrators in troubleshooting connectivity, login, access, submission, or other related problems that students may be experiencing when interacting with the course and course content. This report does not have any filters, but it does allow the instructor to pause/resume the live updates of the log.
Activity Report
The Activity Report provides the instructor with a summary of the number of views for each course activity or resource. The report also shows the last time a resource was accessed. While the report automatically displays the current access information, you can click the Filter section above the report column headers to add date/time range filters to narrow the information generated by the Activity Report.
The Activity Report is viewable by any course participants with the Teacher, Non-Editing Teacher, or Librarian/TA roles.
For more information, see the Activity Report article on Moodle Docs.
Course Participation Report
The Course Participation Report allows an instructor to track interactions with a particular course activity. The report shows how many times a particular activity was viewed and attempted. The filters for the report allow the instructor to assess the activity of individuals or groups. This report may be useful when determining the amount of participation of individual contributors toward a group assignment.
The Participation Report is viewable by any course participants with the Teacher, Non-Editing Teacher, or Librarian/TA roles.
