Passwords

Caution

LITS system passwords serve several purposes, such as preventing unauthorized access to sensitive information and helping faculty, staff, and students prove their identity to campus computer systems.  LITS uses a central account/password directory to authenticate sign-on to most of our systems. Use your Beloit College account to access: The Portal, campus computers, BCNet wireless network, G Suite apps (Gmail, Calendar, Drive), Office 365, Belcat (Library catalog), Jenzabar EX, Moodle and Moodle Groups, Studio Abroad, network file shares, campus directories, and more.

LITS will never ask you to give us your password.  If you get an email asking to verify your account or provide your password, it is likely a phishing scam - do not respond to it or click on the link contained in the email. If you ever have any questions about the authenticity of such a request, please contact LITS Support for guidance before responding.

What do you need to do?

Expiration

Beloit College passwords must contain at least eight characters and can contain a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Recent NIST guidelines suggest you choose a password you will remember (a place you have visited, a pet's name or a phrase from your favorite song). This approach is preferred over selecting a very complex password that you must write down. When changing your password, you are not permitted to repeat any of your previous five passwords.

Employees who have direct access to Jenzabar's EX system are required to change their passwords every 90 days. For everyone else, the password will not expire, but we do ask that you try to change it once a year, at a time of your choosing. If you need assistance with a password change contact the help desk.

The Password Manager system will begin sending a reminder to change your password 10 days prior to its expiration and then every day until the password expires. Emails will be sent from mailto:noreply@beloit.edu. When you receive the notice, change your password via the QuickLaunch Single Sign-on password change instructions. Once you change your password, remember to update the wireless settings on all of your devices (laptop, phone, tablet, etc.).
