Audio System Power-Up Sequence
Please follow this specific power-up sequence to avoid damaging the sound system.
Turn ON the main power switch on the ART power conditioner.
Turn ON the Mackie DFX12 mixer.
Turn ON both Crown power amps.
DO NOT change volume settings on either of the Crown power amps.
DO NOT change any settings on the DBX DriveRack.
Using 1-3 microphones on the stage using standard control room setup
Plug the desired number of microphones into the labeled ports on the stage (on the left or right sides of the large arch).
Use the mixer to control volume output to the speakers using the mixer channel that corresponds to the microphone input on the stage.
If you are using a condenser microphone, be sure to turn on the 48v Phantom power switch on the mixer.
Operating the Mixer from the Front-of-House (FOH) Position at stage right or stage left
For some large events, it may be desirable for a sound technician to operate the mixer from the stage right or stage left position. To do so, follow these steps:
With the entire system OFF, disconnect the house mixer and move it to the desired location.
Using two XLR audio cables, extend the Left and Right speaker output cables from the control room to the new location of the mixer.
Input any microphones or instruments directly into the mixer in its new location.
Follow the Power Up Sequence listed above to turn the system ON.
Remember to return the mixer to the control room and reassemble the proper cabling after the event has concluded.
Operating the Mixer from the Front-of-House (FOH) Position using the 100ft. 16x4 audio snake
For some large events or live band performances, it may be desirable for a sound technician to operate the mixer from somewhere in the audience seating area, away from the stage using the 100ft. audio snake. To do so, follow these steps:
With the entire system OFF, disconnect the house mixer and move it to the desired location.
Take the 100ft 16x4 audio snake and extend it to the desired FOH location.
In the control room, take the microphone cables labeled 2 and 3 and use FXLR-toFXLR connectors to couple them to the Left and Right speaker output XLR cables that were unplugged from the mixer. This will patch you directly into the DBX DriveRack.
Placing the input box for the snake on the stage, take 2x microphone cables and use 2x MXLR-to-MXLR connectors
Plug the snake inputs into the mixer, taking care to match each cable number with the corresponding channel on the mixer.
Input any microphones or instruments into the input box on the stage.
Follow the Power Up Sequence listed above to turn the system ON.
You are now ready to mix from FOH using the audio snake.
Remember to follow the Power Down Sequence listed below and then return the mixer to the control room and reassemble the proper cabling after the event has concluded.
