Overview


Google Drive Backup and Sync allows users to backup their Google Drive files to their local computer, edit offline, and synchronize the changes when there is an active internet connection.

Note about his being a direct replacement fo the Google Sync program.

Installation and Setup (Windows)


Note: If you have the old Google Drive Sync program installed, it must be uninstalled before proceeding with the installation of Backup and Sync.

  1. Download the Google Drive Backup and Sync installation file to your local computer.
  2. Locate the InstallBackupAndSync.exe file and double-click the file to launch the installer.
  3. Follow the installer prompts to complete the installation.
  4. Once the install finishes, close the installer and then launch the Google Drive File Stream app from the Applications folder.
  5. Sign-in to your account using your Beloit College account credentials.
  6. The Drive File Stream menu icon should now appear in the system tray (near the clock).  
    • Use this menu for a quick link to your Google Drive folder and to manage the app settings.
    • The installer also places a shortcut to your Drive documents in This PC as a mounted drive.



Installation and Setup (Mac)


Note: If you have the old Google Drive Sync program installed, it must be uninstalled before proceeding with the installation of Backup and Sync.

  1. Download the Google Drive Backup and Sync installation file to your local computer.
  2. Locate the InstallBackupAndSync.dmg file and double-click the file to launch the installer.
  3. Once the file extraction completes, drag the Backup and Sync from Google app file into the applications folder.
  4. When the file finishes copying, navigate to the Applications folder and double-click the Backup and Sync icon to open the app.
  5. When the "app downloaded for the internet" security warning pops up, click Open.
  6. Sign-in to your account using your Beloit College account credentials.
  7. The Drive File Stream menu icon should now appear in the Mac taskbar (near the clock).  
    • Use this menu for a quick link to your Google Drive folder and to manage the app settings.
    • The installer also places a shortcut to your Drive documents on your desktop and in the Finder menu under Devices.
