Registering Your Computer/Device

Overview

If your device won't connect to BCNet, some devices need to be manually registered in order to connect to the campus network.  Such devices include: game consoles (Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo, etc.), streaming devices or TVs with streaming apps (Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV/Stick, Google Chromecast, etc.), Smart assistants (Amazon Echo, Google Home, etc.), Smart devices (wifi lights, smart home controllers, etc.).

If your device connects to the wired network, you will need to register your device(s) once per academic year. Any device that only connects wirelessly does not need to be registered.

Prepare a Device

To register a computer/device for wired network access you will first need to take the following steps:

  1. Run all system updates for your device.

  2. Install or update current anti-virus software (for devices that support anti-virus software).

  3. Connect your device to a network network port (orange or blue wall port).

  4. A laptop or device with a web browser.

Register a Device

Once you have prepared your device, follow the steps below to register it on the wired network. If your device does not have a web browser, skip to the second section below.  If you have any problems getting your device connected, please contact IT Support.

Devices with a web browser:

  1. Open your web browser. You should be automatically redirected to the registration page.

  2. If not redirected, go to the registration site (https://wifi.beloit.edu/guest) and follow the directions on the page to register.

Devices without a web browser:

If your device does not have a browser and you are wired (plugged into an ethernet port):

  1. Obtain the MAC address from the device.

  2. Go to https://wifi.beloit.edu/guest to manually register the MAC address of your device.

If your device does not have a browser, cannot be connected to the wired network, and is unable to connect to BCNet wirelessly, you may be able to connect by following these steps:

  1. Obtain the MAC address from the device (usually found in Network Settings menu).

  2. Go to https://wifi.beloit.edu/guest to register the MAC address of your device.

  3. Connect the device to BCMedia wireless network
