Step by step instructions for signing into a Mac with Jamf Connect, common problems and solutions, and answers to common questions.

At Your First Sign-In

After upgrading to macOS Monterey, or after powering on your computer from shutdown:

  1. Connect to a network (if not already connected).

    • Connect to a physical network with an Ethernet cable or dock, or click the Wifi icon at the top right corner of the screen and connect to a wireless network..

    • If you can’t connect to the internet, see the “Local login” section below.

  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account using your full Beloit College email address (eg. doej@beloit.edu)

  3. Sign in with your Beloit College username and password.

    • Your username is the first part of your email address, before the @ symbol

    • Complete additional security questions if prompted.

  4. Re-enter the same password as above to verify your account.

  5. Enter your Mac login password (if prompted)

    • Your Mac will sync with the network; use your Beloit College account password to log into the computer, install apps, etc. from now on.

Subsequent Logins

After you have logged into your computer, you will only need to enter your password once to log in when:

  • Authenticating to install an app, change a setting, etc.

  • Logging back in after locking the computer

  • Logging back in after your computer goes to sleep or the lid is closed

After shutting down the computer or choosing Log Out from the Apple menu, you will need to sign in with a network connection using the “first sign in” steps listed above.

Local Login

For enhanced security, your Mac requires a connection to the internet in order to log in with your account. If you do not have access to a network, you’ll see the message “Your Mac is not connected to a network. Try using local login.” You can use the following steps to log in without network access.

IMPORTANT

Local login is a backup login method and does not provide the same security as a network login. Only use local login when necessary.

To log in locally and bypass network authentication:

  1. Click the Local Login button at the bottom of the log in window.

  2. Enter your Beloit College username and password.

  3. Press Return or click the arrow to log in.
