HC 105 Dance Studio One


HC 105 Dance Studio One is a teaching, rehearsal, performance, and event space located on the first floor of the Hendricks Center for the Arts. Technology available in this space includes a ceiling-mounted data/video projector, wall-mounted speakers, a control room with a/v cabinet rack including a Blu-Ray player, performance lighting, and connections for microphone, laptop and audio devices, as well as an audio output for a portable assistive listening system (ALS).  

The information below documents how to accomplish common tasks with the a/v equipment in the room.

Projecting from a laptop


  1. Connect the laptop VGA cable from the connections panel on the mirrored wall to the VGA port on your laptop.

  2. For audio, plug the 3.5mm PC audio cable from the connections panel on the mirror wall into the headphone/audio out port on your laptop.

  3. In the a/v room, flip the Main Power switch on the Furman power sequencer in the a/v rack to the On position to power up the components in the a/v cabinet.

  4. Press the Power button to boot up the laptop.

  5. Push the Power button on the Panasonic projector remote to activate the ceiling-mounted projector.

  6. Once the projector is up, press the PC button on the Extron switcher in the a/v cabinet.

  7. If the computer screen does not appear, press the Computer button on the projector remote until the Computer 1 input is selected.

  8. For audio, press the Power button on the left side of the Pioneer a/v receiver.

  9. Using the Input Select dial on the left side of the a/v receiver, turn the dial until it is set to the AUX input.

  10. Audio level can be adjusted using the Volume knob on the receiver.

  11. When you are finished using the equipment, please power down all components and flip the Main Power switch on the Furman power sequencer to the Off position.

Projecting the built-in Blu-Ray player


  1. Flip the Main Power switch on the Furman power conditioner to the On position to power the components in the a/v cabinet.

  2. Push the Power button on the Panasonic projector remote to activate the ceiling-mounted projector.

  3. Once the projector is up, make sure that it is projecting from the Computer 1 input.

  4. Press the Blu-Ray button on the Extron switcher in the a/v cabinet.

  5. Turn the Blu-Ray player ON using the Power button on the top left of the unit or by pressing the Power button on the remote.

  6. Press the Open/Close button on the top right of the player or on the remote to eject the tray and insert your Blu-Ray or DVD.

  7. For audio, press the Power button on the left side of the Pioneer a/v receiver.

  8. Using the Input Select dial on the left side of the a/v receiver, turn the dial until it is set to the AUX input.

  9. Audio level can be adjusted using the Volume knob on the receiver.

  10. Control the video using the various buttons on the Blu-Ray remote.

Connecting and projecting from a VCR


  1. Connect the audio and video outputs of the VCR to the color-coded Video, Audio L, and Audio R ports on the connections panel using a stereo RCA cable.

  2. Flip the Main Power switch on the Furman power conditioner to the On position to power the components in the a/v cabinet.

  3. Push the Power button on the Panasonic projector remote to activate the ceiling-mounted projector.

  4. Once the projector is up, make sure that it is projecting from the Computer 1 input.

  5. Press the Video button on the Extron switcher in the a/v cabinet.

  6. Turn the VCR ON using the Power button on the unit or by pressing the Power button on the remote.

  7. Insert your videotape into the VCR.

  8. For audio, press the Power button on the left side of the Pioneer a/v receiver.

  9. Using the Input Select dial on the left side of the a/v receiver, turn the dial until it is set to the AUX input.

  10. Audio level can be adjusted using the Volume knob on the receiver.

  11. Control the video using the various buttons on the VCR, or on the VCR remote.

  12. When you are finished using the equipment, please power down all components and flip the Main Power switch on the Furman to the Off position.



Connection and playback from an audio device


  1. Connect the headphone output of the audio player to the iPod port on the connections panel using a 3.5mm stereo audio cable.

  2. Flip the Main Power switch on the Furman power conditioner to the On position to power the components in the a/v cabinet.

  3. Press the iPod button on the Extron switcher in the a/v cabinet.

  4. Press the Power button on the left side of the Pioneer a/v receiver.

  5. Using the Input Select dial on the left side of the a/v receiver, turn the dial until it is set to the AUX input.

  6. Audio level can be adjusted using the Volume knob on the receiver.

    • Make sure that the volume on the iPod is turned all of the way up, to ensure that the system is getting the strongest possible signal.

  7. Control the audio playback using the controls on the iPod.

  8. When you are finished using the equipment, please power down all components and flip the Main Power switch on the Furman to the Off position.
